FAQs about the clinical supervision process

  • While under a Board Clinical Supervision Plan and working towards your LCSW hours, you will typically meet 4 hours a month with your supervisor while working towards your 3,000 hours of work experience while under supervision. This can be online or in-person, which allows you to live anywhere in Texas to contract with me as your supervisor. Online supervision can save significant time and make it more convenient to work towards this professional goal.

You must meet with your supervisor for 100 total hours of supervision during a minimum of 24 months to meet the supervision requirement for your LCSW. You can meet with a small group of other LMSWs under clinical supervision with me, or individually to meet your goals.

Our supervision relationship is designed to support the development of your clinical skills and to help you work towards the requirements to independently practice clinical social work. You will be responsible for bringing client cases to discuss, following Social Work Ethics, working within your competency, and tracking your work hours and supervision hours. I will track supervision hours and keep documentation of our supervision and informal evaluation of your progress. I will lead from the professional development, experience, and learning as a trauma therapist to help you develop in skill and confidence as a clinical social worker.

  • If you have a Texas LMSW, and a social work job in which you assess, diagnosis, or treat mental health or substance abuse issues for at least 4 hours a week- you could be eligible to start your clinical supervision plan. This doesn’t have to mean providing formal diagnosis in the client record. You are required to have 3,000 work hours in addition to the 100 hours of supervision to meet the clinical supervision requirements. All of the hours you work in a social work job, including non-direct hours, count towards your required 3,000 hours. This is different than any LPC-Associates you may be working alongside at your agency!

You typically will need to work about 30 hours a week in a social work job to complete requirements in about 24 months. If you don’t work 30 hours, you are still eligible, but it will take longer to complete your requirements. Part-time employees need 1 hour of clinical supervision for every 40 hours work. This works out to about 2-3 supervision hours a month. If you have a medical leave, or need to stop your supervision plan, we document your progress up to that point, and resume when ready. There is no longer a requirement to complete this supervision process in a certain amount of time.

  • Clinical group supervision is $100 per hour group supervision via Zoom (available when groups of 2-6 supervisees are meeting). Groups meet one hour weekly. This is a good fit for social workers who benefit from learning in group formats, who want a cost-effective supervision option.

Individual supervision is $150 per hour for in-person at my Lakewood office (6301 Gaston Ave, Suite 1209, Dallas TX 75214) or via Zoom. Individual supervision is a fit for social workers who want an in-depth personalized supervision time. This is also a great fit for social workers who want business mentorship or individual EMDR consultation.

  • Yes, I accept agreements from agencies or employers to cover the costs of your LCSW supervision. Check with your employer as many will cover the cost of your supervision if there isn’t an onsite LCSW supervisor.

  • It helps to find a supervisor that meets the vibe check and can help you develop clinical skills and confidence with the clients you work with. I gained my LMSW in 2010 and upgraded to my LCSW in 2019.

Prior to private practice, I worked at a Dallas non-profit agency providing program leadership, supervision, individual and group clinical services, and case management services for over 10 years. This helps me understand the practices settings many LMSWs are working in while pursuing their LCSW.  I have extensive training and consultation hours in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and EMDR. Utilizing EMDR to address trauma (complex trauma, abuse, recent event, single event), anxiety and problematic urges has been the main focus of my clinical career. This has been an advantage to LMSWs serving similar populations while under clinical supervision.

I am an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and this allows EMDR trained and eligible therapists to accrue EMDR Consultation hours towards EMDRIA Certification concurrently with their clinical supervision (at no additional cost). I have been trained in EMDR since 2018 and use EMDR with teens and adults in individual settings. I have advanced training and experience utilizing EMDR to treat complex and ongoing trauma (Ignacio Jarero’s EMDR-PRECI), addictions (AJ Popky’s DeTUR protocol), recent traumatic incidents (Ignacio Jarero’s EMDR ASSYST), Grief & Mourning (Roger Solomon), and using EMDR through telehealth (Ignacio Jarero’s ASSYST remote).

In addition to EMDR, I am trained in DBT and in Perinatal Mental Health. For more about me, click here.
